A race between an upside-down plane and a car has been added to the list of events planned for the Warbirds Over Wanaka International Airshow at Easter.

The car is a Lamborghini Superleggera with a top speed of 325kmh and capable of accelerating from 0 to 100kmh in 3.4 seconds.

It will be driven by four-times Bathurst V8 Supercar winner Greg Murphy.

The plane is a Sukhoi 29 aircraft that will be flown by world aerobatic champion Jurgis Kairys, of Lithuania.

He plans to fly upside down to ''give Murph a chance''.
