There was ''no risk to the public water supply'' when sewage overflowed from a manhole near the intersection of Fernhill Rd and Arawata Tce, in Queenstown, yesterday afternoon.
Queenstown Lakes District Council 3 Waters manager Gerry Essenberg said as a precaution the water intake which fed Fernhill Reservoir No 1 would remain closed for 24 hours.
The sewage overflow was reported to have spilled into the stormwater system.
