A 24-year-old Briton was pepper-sprayed by police early this morning after being kicked out of a Queenstown bar.
Sergeant Kate Pirovano said the man and a 25-year-old compatriot had been denied entry from Vinyl Underground in Church Street at 2am but refused to leave and had to be forcibly removed.
She said the younger man became violent and resisted police so was pepper-sprayed.
Both men were arrested but might be offered diversion, she said.
"Obviously these two guys when they sobered up were remorseful for their actions."
Meanwhile, a "grossly intoxicated" Briton who left a bar in the resort just before midnight on Tuesday and fell on to a car has been charged with wilful damage.
Sgt Pirovano said the front of the car was damaged.
