Getting married in one of Queenstown's most popular venues is likely to become more expensive for those living outside the district.
The Queenstown Lakes District Council's community services committee yesterday decided a new ''wedding rate'' of $1720 be imposed on users of the Lake Hayes Pavilion during the December-May wedding season.
Two-thirds of couples getting married at the facility come from elsewhere in New Zealand or Australia. Local couples will continue to be charged $650.
