The toll - 12 dead, with four missing - is the worst in a single day in the history of the world's highest mountain.
The members of an expedition organised by Adventure Consultants were at base camp when a chunk of ice broke and triggered the avalanche on Friday but the expedition's Sherpas were in its path. Three were killed and one was injured.
"With heavy hearts we are grieving for the loss of our Sherpa friends in yesterday's avalanche on Mt Everest," general manager Suze Kelly said today.
"The news that as many as 16 climbing Sherpa have perished in the icefall yesterday is coming through today, and we have lost three of our Sherpas from the Adventure Consultants team."
The company named the Sherpas as Phurba Ongyal Sherpa from Pangboche, Lakpa Tenjing Sherpa from Khumjung and Chhring Ongchu Sherpa from Khumjung.
