Accused denies arson, burglary charges

The man accused of the arson of a Lake Hayes Estate home last month has denied all but one of the charges he faces.

Dillan Wilson (21), blocklayer, of Lower Shotover, appeared before Judge John Brandts-Giesen by audiovisual link from prison yesterday and elected trial by jury through his counsel Hugo Young on charges of arson and two counts of burglary of a Rere Rd property, all on May 16.

On a charge of dishonestly taking a Toyota motor vehicle on May 18 he elected trial by judge.

Wilson admitted driving while forbidden on May 19 and was convicted and discharged. On all other matters he was remanded in custody to August 8 for a case review, however, an electronically-monitored bail application was expected later this week.
