Dawn service: Firefighters battle early morning blaze

While many Kiwis were attending a dawn service early this morning, Otago firefighters were hard at work batting a blaze at a garage near Arrowtown.

Fire and Emergency NZ spokesman Andrew Norris said crews from Arrowtown and Frankton, with support from Queenstown, managed to contain the fire in Lower Shotover Rd before it spread to a nearby hedge and house.

Crews were called shortly after 6am and two appliances along with a tanker attended.

A fire investigator was notified but did not attend, indicating the blaze was likely not suspicious, Mr Norris said.
