Among the estimated 300 people who visited the Queenstown police station during an open day on Sunday were Felix Nicoll (left) and Tomas Colby (both 10).

They got to meet police dog Xu (3) and his handler, Senior Constable Tom Evans, of Invercargill.

Visitors were able to take tours of the station's charge room and cells, and meet members of the Invercargill-based armed offenders squad and dog section.

There were also displays by LandSAR, Fire and Emergency New Zealand, Victim Support and Queenstown's Community Patrol.
