Council confirms 4.15% rates rise

The Queenstown Lakes District Council yesterday adopted the 2017-18 annual plan, which will lift rates by 4.15%.

It includes the following major changes to the current 10-year plan: $2.9million extra for the Kawarau Falls Bridge pipeline project, $2.6million for 34 full-time equivalent council staff to bring the total number to 323, and $2million for the development of a town centre master plan.

Why not a targeted rate for those responsible for the extra council expenditure?I suppose its easier for the council to slug mum and dad ratepayers than their big business mates.
