Driver facing charge after pedestrian hit

A 30-year-old Queenstown man will be prosecuted after hitting a pedestrian with his car early on Monday.

Senior Sergeant Steve Watt, of Queenstown, said the man would face a charge of either careless driving, or careless driving causing injury.

The man had stopped at a pedestrian crossing at the intersection of Rees and Beach Sts at 12.15am and waited for a group to cross the street.

"He got distracted, went to move off and a straggler was still on the pedestrian crossing.

"He struck the female, who rolled up on to the bonnet and fell to the ground.

The woman had a sore hip and was taken to Lakes District Hospital.
