An elderly man had to be helped out of his crashed car via the boot after it rolled in Frankton this morning.

A police media spokeswoman said emergency services were called to to the incident in McBride St at 10.04am.

A nearby resident told the Otago Daily Times the 90-year-old was driving his car south when he appeared to lose control, hitting two stationary vehicles, before the car tipped on its side.

The resident said bystanders helped the man out of his car through the boot.

He was then taken to Lakes District Hospital in an ambulance and appeared to have minor injuries to his nose and arm, the resident said.

The stationary cars had minor damage.
