Feedback on speed limits

The Queenstown Lakes District Council is seeking feedback on proposed changes to speed limits on some roads in the Wakatipu and Wanaka.

The changes are proposed in the amended draft speed limit bylaw and resulted from a review.

Transport manager Denis Mander said one change was brought about by a residents' petition.

"The suggested alteration of the current 70kmh limit to 50kmh at Kelvin Heights on the stretch of Peninsula Rd from west of Willow Place to west of Loop Rd was driven by a residents' petition."

In January, the council tried to undertake a review of the bylaw but Mr Mander said it could not proceed because of "technical glitches".

The current review includes more roads.

The list of roads is available on the council's website or at council offices.

Submissions on the draft speed limit bylaw close at 5pm, on Wednesday, September 26. A public hearing will be held in October.
