Film buffs and adventure enthusiasts will have a second chance to view the best movies of the New Zealand Mountain Film Festival, which concluded after a successful five-day run in Wanaka this week.

Festival director Mark Sedon said he wanted to take the best offerings of the sixth annual festival to a wider audience.

Film enthusiasts who missed the festival in Wanaka would have the chance to see a "best of" selection, which would be hosted by the various regional branches of the New Zealand Alpine Club around the country, he said. Dates and locations would be announced soon.

The film extravaganza finished on Tuesday night with the screening of By Own Strength, winner of the festival's best film award, about a 439-day circumnavigation of the (48) continental United States by kayak and bicycle.

Wanaka mountain guide Lydia Bradey, the first woman to climb Mt Everest without supplementary oxygen, gave a presentation at the festival finale.
