Hotel's 'sheer scale' raises concerns

The public might have a chance to have their say about a proposal for Queenstown's largest hotel.

Brecon St Partnership has put forward a four-building, 468-room development proposal for near the Skyline gondola base building. It includes 12 ground-floor retail spaces.

The Queenstown Lakes District Council has recommended the hotel be publicly notified, largely because the tallest building would be eight or nine storeys.

The council's planning practice manager has said the building would have an ''adverse effect in terms of sheer scale and dominance''.

An independent planning commissioner will decide if the notification will take place.
