Band of Brothers’ Eamonn McSweeney, of Queenstown, battles with Canterbury GAA’s Mattie Tang in a hurling match at the Queenstown Recreation Ground on Saturday.

Canterbury GAA won 4-21 to Band of Brothers’ 4-11 in the first official hurling contest played in the resort.

The traditional Gaelic game, which has similarities to hockey, is played by teams of 15, who use wooden axe-shaped sticks — hurleys — to hit the ball, more properly called a sliotar.
