A man accused of indecent assault on a child at a Queenstown swimming pool has been remanded in custody.

The 41-year-old Tauranga man appeared in the Queenstown District Court this afternoon on three charges of indecent assault on a child under 12 after an incident at the Alpine Aqualand swimming pool yesterday.

Senior Sergeant Paula Enoka, of Queenstown, said the man was arrested at the pool after the alleged assault, which occurred about 5pm.

The man has been remanded in custody and is due to reappear in court on June 26.

Police said in a statement this evening that they were speaking to other parents, and they encouraged anyone with concerns about their child to contact them.

A media statement from the Queenstown District Council, which owns the pool, said it was "deeply concerned" about the alleged assault.

Pool crew had "acted swiftly once alerted" about the incident.

Council staff had offered support to the victims and the victims' families, and were helping police with their investigation.

"It is paramount that our facilities are safe places."
