Intersection work enters last days

Frustrated commuters who have been faced with daily traffic jams due to a $6.4million project to improve safety at a notorious Queenstown intersection have only days to wait until it is finished.

The New Zealand Transport Agency will officially open the State Highway 6-Tucker Beach Rd intersection at 11am Monday.

The project was announced last May and work began in September.

An underpass has since been constructed for motorists and cyclists on the Shotover River Bridge which connects to a new 500m uphill slip lane, linking to the Frankton-bound lane of SH 6.

The project cost included $1.6 million from the Queenstown Lakes District Council for water and waste water infrastructure to be laid to support further development of Quail Rise.
