Almost 2.2 million people moved through Queenstown Airport in the 12 months to September, its latest statistics show — and the numbers are only going to get larger over the next few months.
Passenger numbers reached 2,183,645 last month, up 12% on September 2016-17 .
Domestic passengers increased 11% on last September, to 122,599, and international numbers lifted 4%, to 55,227.
The total number of passengers travelling through the terminal increased by 9% compared with last year, to 177,826 passengers in September.
Coming into summer, overall capacity was scheduled to increase by 16% compared to last summer.
In the peak summer period, December 20 to January 6, there would be an average of 64 flights a day.
The busiest passenger days were forecast to be the weekends before Christmas and New Year and Saturday, January 5.
