The Winter Games and Gay Ski Week QT contributed to an increase in the number of passengers passing through Queenstown Airport last month compared to the same month last year.

The 189,040 passengers through the terminal last month was up 12% on August last year. Of that number, domestic passengers rose 13% and international passengers were up 10%.

More than 1.9million passengers moved through the airport in the year to July, up 15% compared to the previous year.

In the year to July, Australians made up 67% of all international passengers coming through the airport compared to 21% for all New Zealand’s airports. That proportion increased to 80% in winter.

Visitors from China fell 8% over the period, while those from the United States and the United Kingdom rose 22% and 23% respectively.
