Frankton will get a dedicated parking officer under plans to deal with overflow parking from Queenstown Airport.
Parking along Kawarau Rd - on grass verges on both sides of the road - is considered a blight on what is, for many, one of their first views of Queenstown.
The majority of cars are thought to be overflow from the airport, which is building a park-and-ride facility for people with airline tickets.
A New Zealand Transport Agency ban on parking along State Highway 6, between the Kawarau and Shotover bridges, comes into force next month.
But enforcement of the law will fall on the Queenstown Lakes District Council.
A paper to Thursday's full council meeting estimated annual costs - including a parking officer, new vehicle and head office support - of $178,000.
One-off costs, including a body camera and uniform, were estimated at $6800.
The council would also enforce a 48-hour parking restriction on Frankton streets west of the airport and a new park-and-ride facility being built by the airport.
If councillors agree, parking will be banned along the eastern access road - Glenda Dr and Hawthorne Dr.
