Tourist arrested for dangerous driving

A tourist on his honeymoon was arrested for two counts of dangerous driving yesterday, near Queenstown.

Sergeant Chris Brooks, of Queenstown police, would not reveal the nationality of the driver.

He said the first incident took place on Sunday near Harihari on the West Coast while the second was on the Queenstown side of the Crown Range at about noon.

Members of the public alerted police of the 26-year-old who was "consistently'' driving on the wrong side of the road including around blind corners and when following other vehicles.

"If these people hadn't rung in, he would've hurt somebody," Sgt Brooks said.

The driver has had his passport confiscated and will appear in court on Monday.
