A British man faces a serious assault charge after allegedly injuring another man in Queenstown early on Sunday.

Lea Michael Parker (31) is charged with injuring Cajun Stringer under circumstances that if death had been caused he would have been guilty of manslaughter.

Mr Stringer was hospitalised on Sunday morning after allegedly being assaulted in Camp St at 5am.

He was discharged later the same day. The nature of his injury has not been disclosed by police.

Parker, who lives in Queenstown, was arrested by Constable Terry Erceg and appeared before a registrar in the Queenstown District Court yesterday morning.

He was remanded on bail without plea until December 12. Conditions of his bail are that he does not contact Mr Stringer, enter licensed premises or consume alcohol, and surrenders his passport to police.
