Thousands of people thronged Arrowtown's main street on Saturday for the annual Autumn Festival parade.

Festival co-ordinator Carole Watts said the unseasonably warm weather surprised organisers.

''When the weather's like that we get more people - and
we certainly did get more people.''

She estimated 15,000 people watched the parade.

''It was vibrant and colourful, with music, and the crowd just seemed to love it.''

One of yesterday's highlights was the Pie, Pint and Pinot event on Library Green.

''The Pie and Pint is getting bigger and bigger each year,'' Mrs Watts said, noting people were queueing for tickets
an hour before the gates
opened.

The 33rd festival finishes tomorrow.
