Taxi driver punched in face over fare

A taxi driver was punched in the face by a disgruntled customer on Sunday despite agreeing to reduce the fare.

Sergeant Steve Watt, of Queenstown, said the 20-year-old offender was unhappy about being charged $20 for a ride to a Frankton Rd apartment complex about 2.15am.

When the driver agreed to reduce the fare to $17, the passenger paid, but punched the driver before getting out of the vehicle. The driver suffered a swollen lip. Police are continuing to make inquiries about the incident.
