A woman was taken to hospital with serious injuries after being hit by a car in central Queenstown yesterday.

A police spokeswoman said police were alerted by St John to reports of a car hitting a pedestrian on Man St at 3.05pm.

St John spokesman Gerard Campbell said a woman in her 20s was taken to Lakes District Hospital with serious injuries.

St John staff and members of the public are pictured helping the woman, who was lying by the kerb.

Three people also received minor and moderate injuries when a car and truck collided at the intersection of Ripponvale Rd and Kawarau Gorge Rd, near Cromwell, yesterday.

A police spokesman said emergency services were called about 10.10am and a road diversion through McNulty Rd was put in place. The spokesman could not confirm when the road was cleared but said it was probably by about noon.

A St John spokesman said there were three patients in the vehicles: one who received moderate injuries and two who received minor injuries.

One of the patients with minor injuries was transported to the Cromwell Medical Centre by ambulance.
