Cycling 152km in chilly autumn conditions might not be every 11-year-old's idea of a dream Saturday, but one Queenstown cyclist cannot wait to get pedalling.

Samuel Muir will tackle the Otago Central Rail Trail tomorrow to raise money for Camp Quality.

The children's charity provides a getaway for children diagnosed with cancer.

Yesterday, Samuel said he was feeling "pretty good" in the lead-up to the challenge.

"My training has been pretty tough so I think I'm prepared.

"I'm really excited."

He was aiming to raise $2200, which would pay for one child to attend a camp.

As of yesterday afternoon, he had secured $2137.96.

He said he chose the charity because children with cancer often missed out on going to school camps because of their health.

Samuel's mum, Victoria Robertson, will tackle the trail with him.

She was confident her cycling-mad son would be fine.

"He just keeps going. Unless there's a terrible head wind, he's going to be fine."

Samuel will ride a hard-tail carbon fibre bike, lighter for the long distance. His training has included hours on an indoor training bike, and longer distance rides around the Wakatipu.
