More than 350 Otago pupils will be rushing to check their mailboxes today to find out if they will receive a cut of $3.4 million.
They were among about 9000 pupils who took part in New Zealand scholarship exams last year.
Results were put in the post yesterday and will be available online this afternoon.
Of the 9000 pupils, 2065 will receive a total of more than $3.4 million over three years.
Prizes range from a one-off payment of $500 for a single-subject exam pass, to $30,000 paid over three years for a premier award, as long as students maintain at least a B grade average in tertiary study in New Zealand.
This year, 14 students met the minimum requirements to be eligible for consideration for a premier award, which is restricted to the top five to 10 students in the country.
However, only eight will receive it.
The other six will receive an outstanding scholar award, along with 43 other candidates, worth $5000 per year for three years.
Prof Gary Hawke, chairman of the technical overview group, which oversees the exams, was impressed with the "truly outstanding" performances of the premier award winners.
