The event drew 16 competitors — some coming from as far afield as Blenheim and Rangiora — and included some of the Geraldine Croquet Club’s newer members.
Co-organiser Karyn Close said "one [of the newer members] is doing particularly well".
The event allowed players with a higher handicap extra shots, which meant players could play on "even footing".
Geraldine player Peter McAuliffe said he played well on Saturday, before making "some bad decisions".
But he still managed to place runner-up, with first place going to Cheryl Morrall from the Fendalton Park Croquet Club in Christchurch.
"The lawns are lightning fast at the moment," Ms Close said.
The club welcomed more new members, with games running on Wednesday and Sunday mornings.
Players could play "just for fun" or for exercise and great company, she said.
