Eight arrested after Timaru burglaries

Police in Timaru have arrested eight men in relation to a spate of burglaries in the South Canterbury town.

Police said eight local men were arrested for the burglaries which occurred over the last week.

“These arrests are a timely reminder for commercial building owners to check and update their security systems,” Senior Sergeant Dylan Murray said.

Police continue to work hard to prevent, investigate and resolve crimes like these, he said.

“With a few simple actions, you can make sure your building, tools and materials are safe, especially when you’re off-site,” he said.

Tips:

Help keep your property secure by:

  • Locking all buildings, including out-buildings.
  • Closing windows at night.
  • Ensuring more than one key-holder is available to emergency services.
  • Parking vehicles on your property or in a well-lit area.
  • Installing burglar alarms, sensor lights, cameras or security grills.
