Kidnap victim 'dives from car'

A man is recovering after escaping from a moving car in a gunpoint kidnapping near Timaru.

The man was held up and his car stolen on Kellands Hill Rd two days ago.

Detective Senior Sergeant Richard Quested told Fairfax the man was approached by two men on the side of the road. One was armed with a firearm. Det Sn Sgt Quested said the two men had gang connections.

He said victim dived out of the car to escape and suffered cuts and grazes. He was now recovering at home.

A 36-year-old Pleasant Point man appeared in the Timaru District Court today charged with aggravated robbery, kidnapping, and unlawful possession of a firearm charges.

A 44-year-old Christchurch man has been charged with unlawful possession of ammunition.
