Man charged over Glenavy cannabis operation

A man will appear in court after police searched and dismantled a "sophisticated'' cannabis growing operation in Glenavy yesterday.

Police said a 34-year-old Glenavy man has been charged with a number of drug related offences and will appear in Timaru District Court at a later date.

Sergeant Kevin Reynolds, of Waimate, said five officers visited a property following a tip-off from the public.

“We executed the warrant after assistance from the public and enquiries we had made."

Sixty-nine "good quality cannabis plants" were growing in various areas of the property, Sgt Reynolds said.

The plants and amount of dried cannabis were discovered in an out-building at the property, but he declined to specify the dollar value.
