A motorbike rider has died during a race in Timaru this afternoon.
A group of about 30 riders were racing at Levels race track near Timaru when a rider near the front of the pack fell from his bike and slid across the track.
Following riders then scattered to avoid the fallen rider.
During this, one rider was unable to avoid the fallen rider who was subsequently struck.
The man is reportedly from the Canterbury area and is aged in his 40s.
Next of kin are still being notified by police.
