A person is dead after a car and a truck collided north of Timaru this morning.
The crash occurred about 7.10am, at the intersection of State Highway 1 and Acacia Dr, about 5km north of Timaru.
One person was initially reported as critically injured, after having been trapped for a time in the car, but in an update around 10.25am police confirmed the person had died.
After being freed the person was taken to Timaru Hospital, from where they were to be airlifted to Christchurch Hospital.
A second person sustained minor injuries and was taken to Timaru Hospital.
Part of SH1 is closed between Hedley and Lynch Rds and diversions are in place, police said. Motorists are asked to avoid the area.
