The search for a young whitebaiter missing at sea, and who has family links to North Otago, continued yesterday but was limited by rough sea conditions.
Victor Boraman (21), who grew up in Papakaio, was whitebaiting at the Rakaia River mouth when he was swept out to sea on Sunday.
A ground search of the shoreline around the area, involving about 10 Landsar volunteers, took place before and after low tide yesterday but found no sign of the missing man.
Canterbury police communications manager Stephen Hill said either side of low tide was the only time a search had been possible.
Rough seas prevented the Westpac Rescue Helicopter from pulling Mr Boraman from the water on Sunday night.
