The crash occurred at the intersection of State Highway 8 and the Mount Cook Rd (SH80) just after 3pm.
Police this evening confirmed one person had died in the three-car crash, while two others were seriously injured and one had moderate injuries.
State Highway 8 remains closed at Pukaki Dam.
The Serious Crash Unit is investigating.
