Alert to burglaries

A series of recent burglaries in Milton has resulted in police increasing their patrol efforts in the area.

In a statement, police said five burglaries in the Milton area had been reported in the past few weeks.

All had occurred in the early hours of the morning.

Locations that had been burgled included the White Horse Inn and the Midway Dairy, both in Union St.

Cigarettes, tools, cash and alcohol had been taken.

Police said they were following positive lines of inquiry and patrols had been increased in the area.

Business owners had been encouraged to boost security measures and anyone who wanted advice on how to do this should contact their local police station.

Police want people to report anything suspicious.

If they witness a crime, they should contact 111 immediately.

Information could also be provided anonymously by using the Crimestoppers phone line 0800 555-111.

Anyone interested in setting up a Neighbourhood Support group in their street or area should contact either the Milton (03 417-8203) or Balclutha (03 418-0203) police stations.

They could also check out the Neighbourhood Support website, police said.
