World-cup winning archer Anne Mitchell last night added another string to her bow by winning Clutha's premier sports award.

The Balclutha-based archer won the senior sportsperson category before being crowned overall winner at the biennial ceremony, which recognises the district's sporting talent.

Olympic gold medallist triathlete Hamish Carter was guest speaker at an event that attracted a who's who of South and West Otago's sporting elite.

For Mitchell, her win crowned another stellar year in her push to be named in the 2010 New Zealand team for Commonwealth Games in India.

Her 2009 highlight came in early June when she was a member of the New Zealand women's compound team that won a world cup event in Turkey.

During the meet, the team out-shot some of world archery's top teams, including Venezuela, Germany and Greece.

Mitchell hopes to continue representing New Zealand and has set her sights on attending the Games next October.

The New Zealand team is ranked fifth in the Commonwealth.
