Donna Buxton was nominated for her long-standing involvement in a range of local initiatives, including a lunchtime programme supporting school-aged girls.
She focused on providing a welcoming space where students would feel included and heard during the school day, and also served for many years as a volunteer collector for charitable organisations, alongside regularly hosting out-of-town visitors at her home.
Mrs Buxton said her effort grew out of encouragement early on.
‘‘I got mentored by a really good friend, and I don’t have children but I still like to give back, whether it be supporting other people’s children, or the district. It just feels like a good use of my time.’’
She thanked her helpers and nominator — and Silver Fern Farms for its encouragement.
