"Technology can become a nightmare when you push the wrong button on the remote, or the oven is stuck on automatic, or a fuse has a mind of its own," his nominees said.
"It doesn’t matter what time, it’s Ali to the rescue. He doesn’t charge them and is only too happy to help.
"He is a true local legend."
His nominees said he was a local by heart and was appreciated by the Kaka Point community through surf club patrol volunteering, being a member of the fire brigade, the Owaka Lions and more.
