Several people were injured in a two-car crash near Balclutha today.
At least one person was trapped in a car after the accident, which occurred on State Highway 1 near the Paterson Rd intersection shortly before midday, police said.
Police said three people were airlifted to Dunedin Hospital with moderate to serious injuries.
Two people were treated for minor injuries at the scene, Fairfax reports.
The Serious Crash Unit is at the scene.
The road has now re-opened between Milton and Balclutha.
