The funding will contribute towards an estimated $80,000 project to build a spacious, elevated deck overlooking the course and create additional space for members and community groups who use the venue.
Club president Gavin Scott said planning for the project had been under way for close to a year and the trust grant formed an important part of the funding package.
"The OCT grant goes a good way towards what we need, and we’re a resourceful club with plenty of tradies and professionals able to help out their way, where they can," he said.
The planned steel-framed, timber deck will extend from the clubhouse rear to take advantage of all day sun and views to provide an attractive outdoor area for golfers and visitors.
Balclutha Golf Club was a social and recreational hub for about 150 members, and the facilities were used far more widely by groups and families for business and social events, regularly hosting fundraising tournaments, meetings, weddings, milestone celebrations, alongside visiting green-fee players and golfing events, he said.
Construction will depend on securing the remaining funding, and Mr Scott estimated the project could still be about 12 months away.
He said grant applications were detailed and thorough but were navigated to a successful funding application by course convener Steve Balloch with assistance from Clutha District Council community liaison officer Lilly Patterson.
He thanked them and the trust for supporting the project, and other club members contributing their time and professional skills to bring the development closer to reality.
Balclutha Golf Club was one of 45 organisations to share more than $1.17 million distributed through the OCT’s May funding round.
