Two arrested in Owaka over Southland burglaries

Two men have been arrested following a string of burglaries in Southland over the past few weeks.

Police said the men, both in their 30s, were arrested in the South Otago town of Owaka yesterday.

Both men were charged with burglary and were set to appear in Dunedin District Court today, police said.

Senior Sergeant Maggie Windle said some property was recovered by police and possibly belonged to tourists visiting the area.

"Anyone who witnesses a crime or suspicious behaviour is urged to call Police on 111, or anonymously on 0800 Crimestoppers.

"We want to know what criminal activity is occurring in our communities, and we have staff who are always ready to help."
