Two-car crash in Southland

Emergency services were called to the scene of a two-vehicle crash near Lorneville, Invercargill yesterday morning. Three people were taken to hospital after the collision.

The crash happened at the intersection of Flora Rd and State Highway 6 in Makarewa, north of Lorneville.

Four police vehicles, two Fire and Emergency teams and two ambulances were called to the scene at about 8.15am outside Makarewa School.

A police officer at the scene said those involved in the crash had gone to the hospital for "check ups''.

The extent of the victims' injuries were not known, but they were not believed to be serious.

"We're just wanting to make sure everyone is safe.''

Police were not prepared to comment on a possible cause as investigations were ongoing.

By 9am emergency services had left the scene.

Traffic management was put in place and the road was cleared of debris from the crash.
