The Clutha District Council has awarded a $4 million annual contract to City Care Water to manage the district's water supply, stormwater and wastewater, and to support aquatics in Balclutha and Milton.

The five-year contract was awarded to Christchurch-based City Care due to its "intelligent" water-monitoring services, "superior customer care" and improved integration with the council's electronic systems, council operations manager Gareth Phillips said. The contract begins on July 1.
