Achievement on parade

Graduates from the Southern Institute of Technology (SIT) took to the streets of a blustery Invercargill yesterday  after ceremonies for diploma, degree and postgraduate students were held at the Civic Theatre.

A total of 533 students graduated in the ceremonies, an increase of more than 100 compared with three years ago.

The increase is due to a boost in students in several areas, including information technology, applied management and screen arts.

Olympic cycling medallist Eddie Dawkins was among those graduating.

The bachelor of sport and exercise graduate  said he was thrilled to be in Invercargill for the ceremony and was looking forward to  further study as well as pushing towards the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
