Alliance consent renewal

A resource consent hearing will begin today at Environment Southland regarding the Alliance Group’s application to renew a series of consents.

Alliance Group last year applied to renew three consents for its Mataura meat processing plant that expired in December allowing it to take and use water from the Mataura River for cooling and processing purposes and discharge cooling water and wastewater into the river.

It also asked for a 35-year consent term for all replacement consents and consent to use an existing weir for the damming and diversion of water for the same period.

The hearing has been set for three days, and will begin at 10am.

Our journalists are your neighbours

We are the South's eyes and ears in crucial council meetings, at court hearings, on the sidelines of sporting events and on the frontline of breaking news.

As our region faces uncharted waters in the wake of a global pandemic, Otago Daily Times continues to bring you local stories that matter.

We employ local journalists and photographers to tell your stories, as other outlets cut local coverage in favour of stories told out of Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch.
