Boy's mother in tears as accused killer remanded

The person charged with murder of a nine-year-old boy who was found dead in Otautau last year was remanded without a plea.

Emotional members of the victim’s family were present at the proceedings today at Invercargill High Court.

They consoled the mother of the boy who cried during the whole session.

Details about the accused's identity, including their age and sex, continue to be suppressed.

Justice Cameron Mander had the youth remanded in custody until their next appearance on March 17 when a plea is expected.
