Fiona Guy Kidd (centre) is the first Queen's Counsel appointed from Southland since the position was established in 1907.

She was sworn in at the Invercargill courts yesterday, in a ceremony presided over by Chief Justice Dame Sian Elias.

Here, after the formalities, she poses with fellow legal practitioners Kate Davenport QC (left) and Susan Hughes QC as an unidentified colleague takes a photo on his cellphone to commemorate the occasion.
