Two people have been killed after three motorcycles crashed in Southland today.
Emergency services were called to the scene of the crash at about 12.45pm near the intersection of Fairfax Isla Bank Rd and Riverton Otautau Rd, south of Otautau.
Police said two people are dead and one person has sustained critical injuries.
Initial reports suggested four people had been involved in the crash, and at least two motorcycles, police said.
However it has been confirmed that there were three motorcycles and three riders involved in the crash, police said.
The road is expected to be closed around the crash scene for some time.
The Serious Crash Unit will be investigating.
