Four injured in three-car crash

Four people were injured and State Highways 6 and 97 were blocked for a time, following a three-car crash near Lumsden yesterday afternoon.

Emergency services were called to the incident about 3.15pm, at the intersection of Five Rivers Rd (SH97) and SH6, north of Lowther.

Three people sustained moderate injuries, while another was in a serious condition and was transported by helicopter to Southland Hospital, in Invercargill.

Earlier in the day, emergency services were called to a serious crash between a motorcycle and car in Rakaia in Canterbury.

Police said they were alerted to the crash at Dunford St at 12.55pm and it was believed one person was seriously injured.
